COACH KING CAPTURES 500TH VOLLEYBALL WIN: The Keswick volleyball had much to celebrate last week as the Crusaders improved to 15-3 on the season with three match wins (and another via forfeit). The biggest cause for celebration came last Thursday, at Seffner Christian as the Crusaders’ victory gave long-time Keswick head coach Karrmayne King her 500th victory as volleyball head coach. An amazing milestone in itself, King has also won more than 500 basketball games.
The milestone certainly did not go unnoticed in the Tampa Bay area with media coverage coming from Spectrum Sports 360, the Tampa Bay Times and a feature from WTSP-TV (Ch. 10) reporter Bobby Lewis for his “On the Road” feature, among others.
The Crusaders have three matches this week – at Admiral Farragut (Sep. 30), at Universal Academy (Oct. 1) and vs. St. Petersburg Catholic (Oct. 3). The Crusaders match vs. St. Pete Catholic will celebrate this year’s seniors – Jakara Akins, Emily Babnick, Brooke Brown and Rylee Hannon. In the latest MaxPreps Rankings, the Crusaders are ranked No.7 in 2A and the No.3 ranked team in their region.
STRONG SECOND HALF KEYS CRUSADERS FOOTBALL VICTORY: Leading 8-0 at halftime, the Crusaders offense exploded for 34 second half points en route to 42-0 victory at Marco Island Academy last Friday. It marks the second consecutive shutout for the Crusaders defense as Keswick improves to 4-2 on the season.
Senior Tilon Thompson finished the game with 19 carries, 173 yards with 2 touchdowns to go along with a team-leading 11 tackles, including one sack. Bryce Artze, Maverick Fulvi, Max Melcher and Andrew Yeater also found the endzone of the Crusaders.
The Crusaders honored Northeast High School’s Jacquez Welch, who suddenly passed away last week, by wearing red armbands in his honor (Northeast’s school color).
Keswick (4-2) homecoming game is set for Friday, October 4, when the Crusaders will host All Saints Academy at 7pm.
