Guidance
The Guidance Department of Keswick Christian School seeks to help the students make the most of the academic abilities God has given them. The guidance staff works closely with the parents to provide high school, college, and career counseling. Our goal is to prepare students to be wise, knowledgeable servant-leaders in the fields they will pursue in the future.
Students become familiar with formal standardized testing in the 10th grade with the administration of the PLAN. This test is both an interest inventory and a skills assessment. All juniors take the PSAT (Preliminary SAT) and are encouraged to take the ACT or SAT prior to their senior year. Seniors take either the ACT, the SAT, or both.
Assistance is provided in the college application and admission process. Graduation requirements are monitored, and information is dispersed to parents regarding college options and financial aid. A web-based management system called Workspace K12 provided by Naviance will streamline communication between parents, family, and the school counselor. This system will allow students to access scholarship information, apply to colleges, compare colleges, explore careers, track guidance milestones, and prepare thoroughly for the ACT and SAT.
Guidance Mission Statement: Using a principle-centered, character-based approach, the KCS Guidance Department seeks to help students develop academic and spiritual maturity by providing direction in course selection, standardized testing, and college and career counseling.
The KCS Guidance Program seeks to:
- Assist students in striving for academic excellence and monitor progress as students remove any hindrances to learning.
- Help students identify the skills and abilities God has given them and determine how they can put those to use through service now (in school, home, church, and community) and in the future (a career, ministry, college).
- Provide direction concerning career and college intentions.
- Promote a Christian perspective of self, family, peers, and community.
- Address the developmental needs of students in spiritual, academic, social, and emotional areas.
- Provide help to students who face obstacles that interrupt their normal development in any area.
